The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the organization and administrative requirements of the negotiation team.
  • Drafting Briefing Notes and other materials for leadership.
  • Coordinating major project negotiation files for the Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
  • Supporting the implementation of TWN Impact Benefit Agreements and other related Accommodation Agreements.
  • Collaborating with senior leaders, legal advisors, and other third-party consultants on complex negotiation files.
  • Contributing to strategic planning and organization of the negotiation process.
  • Participating and supporting senior leaders in major project negotiation files and meetings.
  • Presenting materials to Indigenous communities and leadership (Council)

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Education/Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or graduate degree in Indigenous governance/studies, business, legal or a negotiation related discipline is an asset.
  • Experience in a related field with some direct experience in negotiations and Indigenous community outreach.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a high-performance team. Involving strong interpersonal & public speaking.
  • Ability to generate innovative solutions using insight and creativity to inform strategies and plans.

 

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands

  • Significant desk work with extended periods of computer work (virtual and in-person meetings).
  • Regular travel to meetings in the Metro Vancouver area.

 

Mental Focus

  • Synthesize complex and diverse information.
  • Remain calm, professional, objective, and constructive.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

 

Environmental Conditions

  • Dynamic environment with multiple demands, changing priorities and regular interruptions.
  • Involvement with confidential / sensitive information and other issues requiring situational, commercial, and social awareness.
  • Some flexibility in work hours expected.
  • Engagement within departments, First Nation governments, and levels of Crown government.

 

Travel: Although this position is primarily office based, there will be a portion of time spent on site visits, including travel and occasional overnight stays.

Working Hours: 35-hour per week, overtime as required.

Expected Start Date: ASAP, willing to wait for the right candidate.

Compensation: $27-32/h CAD; Plus, Extended Health Benefits & Pension Plan
