Job Summary: This position is intended to help Inlailawatash become an industry leader in the provision of environmental services. Inlailawatash has established a strong reputation for successful delivery of environmental, landscape, and Environmental Protection initiatives and is looking to expand these services going forward.

The Project Coordinator will work with Inlailawatash management to:

  1. Support the coordination and management of established environmental projects within the Ecosystem Services program.
  2. Assist in developing new project and business opportunities to support continued growth. Prepare comprehensive bids for new projects including cost estimates.
  3. Assist Ecosystem Services Technicians with field activities such as environmental monitoring, restoration planting, or invasive species removal, as required.
  4. Provide support and assistance to other Inlailawatash departments, including Vegetation Management and Forestry, as required.

This position combines office and field-based work. Field work will occasionally include travel and overnight stays, with the potential for overtime or work outside of regular hours. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Work collaboratively with Inlailawatash management to manage and coordinate all key aspects of the Ecosystem Services Business Unit and assist in coordinating and managing various natural resource projects, including:

  • Engaging and working with clients and project partners.
  • Managing and coordinating subcontractors.
  • Coordinating logistics and supervising project fieldwork, including on site project and safety supervision.
  • Assist with field work as required, in both urban and remote field settings.
  • Monitoring project quality and performance, writing up project summaries and reports.
  • Identify new project opportunities, develop and submit project bid responses and proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with project partners and associates to identify and develop new partnership and capacity building opportunities.
  • Provide support and assistance to other program areas as directed by the Ecosystem Services Manager.
  • Provide general office and administrative support.

     

Qualifications and Skills:

Education/Experience

  • An undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Ecological Restoration, or related field, and at least three years of relevant work experience, or a graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Interest in First Nations cultural and environmental values and environmental stewardship is essential; past work with First Nations is considered an asset.
  • Relevant industry or professional experience (such as environmental consulting/services, natural resource management).
  • Experience coordinating/managing projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental mitigation and protection planning measures.
  • Experience working as part of a team in an environmental / natural resource-based environment.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and ability to operate a wide range of equipment and machinery including but not limited to: ATVs, trailers, and 4X4 trucks. Willing and able to travel by boat.
  • Level 1 First Aid preferred, but not essential (training provided).

Technical Skills

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, detail oriented.
  • Strong awareness of the importance of safety, with the ability to develop, implement and manage safety protocols and procedures in coordination with work crews.
  • Knowledge in and experience of Project Management considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and digital communication skills with a demonstrated ability to produce plans, reports, and other written products.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Numeracy skills (for example, developing cost estimates, analysis and reporting of project performance against budget) considered an asset.
  • Thrives in a constantly changing environment with the ability to multi-task and handle a range of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Comfortable with handling a fluctuating and unpredictable workload.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and tact in building and maintaining relationships.
  • Identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner (gathers and analyzes information and develops alternative solutions using a reasoned approach).
  • Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and independently drive them forward.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a high performing team.
  • Desire to learn and comfort with learning on the job.
  • Comfortable working in a field-based role combined with office time as required.
  • Must be willing and able to conduct field work in both urban and remote locations, in all weather conditions. This occasionally includes tasks requiring moderate physical effort such as carrying equipment over rough terrain.

Working Conditions:   

Physical 

  • Regular combination of indoor office work and outdoor fieldwork.
  • Fieldwork conducted in urban, rural, and remote environments.
  • Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • Regular requirement to carry equipment and supplies over uneven or rough terrain.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, or working in outdoor settings.
  • Regular operation of vehicles and equipment including 4x4 trucks, trailers, ATVs, and boats.
  • Occasional travel involving overnight stays and extended hours outside of standard work schedule.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in field settings.
  • Extended screen time and computer-based work during office tasks.

Psychological 

  • Exposure to shifting priorities and evolving project demands.
  • Requirement to manage competing deadlines and multitask across multiple projects.
  • Occasional high-pressure situations related to project delivery timelines.
  • Responsibility for monitoring safety in field environments.
  • Frequent engagement with diverse clients, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Exposure to confidential or culturally sensitive information.
  • Working in culturally diverse environments, including Indigenous communities.
  • Variable workload intensity, including periods of high demand.
  • Requirement to remain focused in isolated or physically demanding environments.
  • Exposure to environmental or ecological site conditions that may require heightened awareness and caution.

     

Travel: This position includes both office and field work, with occasional travel, and potential for overtime or work outside regular hours.

Working Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible options available)

Expected Start Date: May 5, 2025

Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience; Plus, Extended Health Benefits & Pension Plan, Eligibility for educational and professional membership dues reimbursements.
