Matthew Thomas is a business leader in British Columbia with over 25 years of business experience in First Nations business and real estate development. He is the Senior Economic Development Officer of the TWN Economic Development Department of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation where he served on Council from 1990 to 1997.
Matt directs and coordinates the financial and operational activities of the TWN’s Economic Development Department and its subordinate business units at the highest level of management. He analyzes financial information, presents financial reports, maintains records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other financial activities. He advises Chief and Council, the community, business unit managers, and other organizations where needed on the financial status of community owned and partnered businesses. In addition he helps direct, and coordinate activities of the economic development team.
Matt has many years of experience in real estate development as Director of Takaya Developments, the company that builds the highly successful residential community of Ravenwoods in North Vancouver. He is Director of Wolf Clan Development Ltd., a company formed to manage all Tsleil-Waututh Nation land acquisition negotiations and business. Further, he is Director of SPAL General Constructors, a company that manages TWN construction partnerships and Director of Inlailawatash, a TWN wholly owned environmental services provider. Matt overlooks Salish Seas, a community fisheries company and has been instrumental in the development and management of various community economic development ventures such as TAKaya Driving Range, Takaya Tours Inc., the Tsleil-Waututh General Store.
